About us

Happs, established 1978 in Dunsborough, close to Cape Naturalist in the warmer north of the Margaret river region has been for many years a favourite cellar door destination for Western Australians. Perhaps this is due to the wide range of drinker friendly wines, the ambience of the mud brick buildings, the unpretentious approach of the staff, the presence of the pottery which pre-dated the wine enterprise and proximity to rapidly growing Dunsborough and Geographe Bay. These days the pottery is in the capable hands of eldest son Myles. Happs now sources 80% of its fruit from the vineyard Erl Happ planted in Karridale in 1994 where the ripening conditions and cloud cover are driven by Southern Ocean influences. Recently, the Three Hills label has been launched to cater for the best of the fruit from the south and the early releases open a new chapter in the development of Happs. Three Hills Shiraz, Charles Andreas, Merlot and Nebbiolo are impressive wines that chart new horizons for the enterprise. A second cellar door is proposed for the Three Hills vineyard in the remote and little visited but emerging southern end of the region in 2004. Winemaking will continue to be centred in Dunsborough.
